The next membership meeting of the EU Sports Platform will take place on Wednesday 19 June, from 13h00-16h00, at our office at Rue d'Arlon 25, 1050, Brussels. The main focus of our meeting will be on the issue of state aid in sport. In the context of the current work DG Competition is carrying out related to state aid in professional football, we will have a discussion on the impact of state aid rules on sport more broadly, including a practical overview of the current framework. Mr. Wouter Pieke, Head of State Aid Unit C4 in DG Competition, will join us for this discussion together with MEP Ivo Belet and Ken Daly, Partner at Sidley Austin LLP. We will also hold an exchange of views with the Irish Presidency, who will give an update on the priorities of the Council’s Sports Working Group, and a discussion on the latest Preparatory Actions in Sport with a representative from DG EAC.
